MADEIRA ISLAND

 Madeira is an island located in the north of the Atlantic Ocean. Madeira it was first discovered by two Portuguese’s sailors called Joao Goncalves Zarco and Tristao Vaz Teixeira in 1419 and then settled in 1420. Today, it is popular all year round resort, being visited by about one million tourist who arrive by plane or cruise. The best time to go Madeira on holiday is in the summer time as it the hottest time of the year and you can enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches.

Madeira is really famous for its Madeira wine, flowers, landscapes and for its annual New Year celebrations that features the largest firework show in the world. The capital city is Funchal which is the main harbour for any cruise ships to dock from all over the world. There are 34 cities in Madeira counting the capital city. Madeira is 57 km long, 22 km width and has an area of 741 km2. Madeira has a population of just under 270,000.



There are a lot of stuff you can do while you are on holiday in Madeira. One thing you can do is go on walks and hiking which is a great activity for people who like to walk for hours and it’s a great walk for people who love to explore new places. Another thing you can do while on holiday is a boat trip on the offshore or coast of the island which will included whale watching and swimming with the dolphins. Also you can do is ride in the cable cars which is a 560m high way of travelling from the top of the mountain to the capital city. So from Monte to Funchal. Which approximately takes 15 minutes to get from one end to the other.
